Tourism - Minister of Tourism Yashodhara Raje Scindia in U.S.; focus on Madhya Pradesh tourism
Yashodhara Raje Scindia, Minister of Tourism, Government of Madhya Pradesh, during her visit to the U.S., took time off to meet representatives from the travel industry and Indian American media at a luncheon meeting at Diwan Restaurant in Manhattan, New York, on Aug. 24.
Speaking at the meeting, Scindia highlighted the present status of the tourist destinations in her state. She said that the main attractions of Madhya Pradesh were its architecture and wild life.
She said that the focus was on developing new areas as tourist destinations and improving existing ones. Strengthening infrastructure for facilitating tourism is also being stressed including improving roads, increasing quality accommodations and improving other facilities.
She has already identified three sectors for special attention. They are Orchha in the Khajuraho sector, Indore-Mandu sector and Bhopal, which is also close to the world famous Sanchi Stupa which attracts Buddhist pilgrims from world-over. Jabalpur, with its magnificent marble rocks, is also being spruced up.
To reduce existing tourist pressure on Kanha and Bandhavgarh National Parks, Panna National Park near Khajuraho and Pench National Park near Nagpur on the border of Maharashtra are also being developed.
The meeting was organized by the India Tourist office in New York. Other guests included representatives from Air-India and the Indian Consulate.
During this visit to the U.S., Scindia also attended the U.S.-India Investment Meet and Business Expo in Los Angeles, California, from Aug. 21-22 organized by U.S.-Asia Business Forum and supported by FICCI, India.
Speaking at the event, Scindia said that reforms and the process of liberalization has now moved to the states of India which are competing with each other to attract both domestic and foreign investment.
She also elaborated on the opportunities available in the tourism and hospitality sectors in Madhya Pradesh.
